Surface-correct method
The room you stopped using because it went green.
A conservatory roof is the dirtiest surface on most houses and the one nobody can reach. Algae, moss, leaf silt and roof run-off build up on the panels until the room underneath is permanently gloomy — and the box gutter behind it quietly fills up at the same time.
We clean conservatory and orangery roofs across Hampshire and West Sussex: glass, polycarbonate, self-cleaning coated glass, uPVC and aluminium frames, glazing bars, ridge and finials, plus the box gutter where the conservatory meets the house wall.
The work is done with soft brushes on telescopic poles, a mild detergent with a biocide fraction for algae control, and a low-pressure rinse. Polycarbonate in particular scratches easily and hazes permanently once it does, so nothing abrasive and nothing high-pressure goes near it.
Where the conservatory has a box or valley gutter against the house, we clear and flush it as part of the same visit — that hidden gutter is the single most common cause of damp appearing on the wall inside a conservatory.
- Glass and polycarbonate roof panels
- uPVC and aluminium frames and glazing bars
- Ridge, end caps and finials
- Box and valley gutters cleared and flushed
- Algae and moss treated, not just rinsed
- Frames, sills and cills wiped down
What a neglected conservatory roof actually costs you.
It isn't only appearance. Standing debris and blocked drainage on a conservatory cause real, expensive damage — and it always shows up inside first.
The room loses its light
A green polycarbonate roof can cut daylight into the room dramatically. Most people stop using the space long before they think about cleaning the roof.
Box gutters overflow into the house
The gutter between conservatory and house wall is out of sight and fills with roof grit and leaf silt. When it overflows it runs down the wall junction — which appears indoors as damp plaster and stained skirting.
Moss holds water on seals and glazing bars
Wet moss packed along glazing bars keeps seals and gaskets permanently damp. Seals perish, panels start to leak, and the repair costs far more than routine cleaning.
A clear, methodical system — built around your time and your property.
Inspection
We assess the surface, age, material and condition on site or from your photos — and quote in writing.
Preparation
Plants, drains and fragile fixtures are covered. Loose debris is cleared before cleaning begins.
Treatment
The correct chemistry and pressure for the surface — biocides, detergents or pure cleaning where appropriate.
Verification
A controlled rinse, inspection in natural light, and a walk-around with you to check every metre.
Completion
Site left spotless. Aftercare advice and a clear written invoice.
The benefits you'll actually notice — and the ones that pay for themselves.
Daylight restored
Panels come back to clear or near-clear, and the room becomes usable again — usually the same afternoon.
Drainage checked, not just the roof
Box gutters, valley gutters and downpipes serving the conservatory are cleared and flushed as part of the visit.
No scratching or hazing
Soft brushes and low-pressure rinsing only. Polycarbonate is never abraded, and self-cleaning glass coatings are not stripped.
Algae treated at the root
A biocide fraction in the cleaning solution slows regrowth well after the visit rather than simply rinsing the surface.
Frames and finials included
Glazing bars, ridge, end caps and uPVC frames are cleaned in the same visit, not quoted as extras.
Photographic evidence
Before-and-after photographs of your own roof, since you can't see it from the ground.
How we clean each conservatory roof type.
Glass, polycarbonate and coated glass all behave differently, and the frame material changes the approach again. Here's how we handle each.
Polycarbonate roofs
Multiwall polycarbonate is soft, and it scratches and hazes permanently under abrasive pads or high-pressure water. We apply a mild detergent-and-biocide solution, allow dwell time to break down the algae film, agitate gently with a soft flow-through brush on a pole, then rinse at low pressure. Algae also colonises the inside of the flutes in older sheets, which cannot be cleaned out — we will always tell you honestly when that is the case rather than charging you for a clean that cannot fix it.
Glass and self-cleaning coated glass
Standard glass panels are cleaned with detergent and a soft brush, then rinsed with purified water where practical so the panels dry without spotting. Self-cleaning glass carries a factory coating that aggressive chemicals and abrasives strip — we clean these with mild detergent only, preserving the coating.
Frames, glazing bars and finials
uPVC and aluminium frames, glazing bars, ridge sections, end caps and finials are cleaned with the same soft chemistry used on fascias and soffits. High pressure is never used on uPVC: it scores the surface, and once scored the dirt embeds and cannot be removed.
Box gutters and the house junction
Where the conservatory abuts the house, a box or valley gutter takes water from both roofs. We clear the debris out by hand, flush the run to check it drains, and photograph the result. This is the part of the job that prevents damp, and it is included as standard.
